Workshop Note

This is a slightly improved version of a photo I uploaded here long ago. It's not a new scan but I made it look slightly better than it used to.

The minarets belong to the 12th century Nur al-Din mosque. Most of the actual mosque was destroyed in 1942 but the minarets have remained and become one of the landmarks of Mosul. According to what I have read on the internet the "Islamic State" had in mind to destroy the minarets after occupying Mosul in 2014, but the residents of the city gathered to protect the site.
