Union Square

I dedicate this photo to Brenda (worldcitizen), on the last day of our stay in New York last summer, my dad and I had the pleasure of meeting Brenda, who gave us a tour through the neighbourhoods around Union Square. After a lunch, she took us to a department store first, not for shopping, but for this wonderful view over Union Square and the towers of Midtown Manhattan beyond.

Union Square used to be the place where two important Manhattan thoroughfares, Broadway and the former Bowery Road, came together. The square features a large equestrian statue of George Washington. Union Square is often used for demonstrations, most recently against the outcome of the 2016 Presidential Elections.
