Photographer's Note

Khori, a village not very far from the fringes of Delhi, is a village at crossroads. Situated very close to Faridabad, one of the industrial hubs near Delhi, Khori is grappling whether it embraces urbanization in the name of 'development' or retain it’s rural and rustic self.

Khori surprisingly is at a standstill. Most of the men are labourers in the numerous construction sites around the belt. A dirty path, runs through the village, with pools of stagnant water, freely roaming cows & buffaloes & curious onlookers as we walked along.

Inside one of the houses, which lined the path, three small friends were playing & talking. The door was ajar & I stopped & clicked, then again, and again. This was with 397mm, zooming in for a closeup of this girl’s face. Her nonchalant stare just could not be was beyond all her 9 years. A part of the ladder leading to the terrace of their house, can be seen on the right. When I called them & showed all their pictures, their faces radiated with beautiful smiles. This was my biggest reward.
