Photographer's Note

At this place, near the mountain pass Kayaeshik (2532 m above sea level), numerous streams flowing down from the glaciers on the snowy slopes of the Mount Elbrus, flow together forming the Malka River. The Kizilkol is the biggest of these streams. Along it, we had to ascend on the Palnbashi Saddle (3691 m).

In the picture, you can see the canyon of Malka in the foreground, a spur of the Mount Shaukam (2879,7 m) in the background and the so-called “Valley of Castles” in the middle.
