Photographer's Note

The river Pielisjoki was partly on ice and the color was deep blue. The sun was low and the color of the white house was like glowing. This is the East Bank of river Pielisjoki (Itäranta in finnish; itä=east, ranta=shore) and this part of the shore it is called Aittaranta ("barn shore"). Today this house is renovated as a residence and has flats with river view.

This house in "Aittaranta" is of functionalistic style from early last century. The long part was built 1928 as a stock and the higher part for office purposes for the local co-operative. The architect was Erkki Huttunen, who later was awarded with a gold medal in Paris World Exposition 1937 (Paris Exposition universelle 1937).

The Wiki about Erkki Huttunen can be read from finnish Wikipedia and other houses by him can be found from wikimedia commons.
