I spent five weeks in the Philippines together with my wife. Actually this was already my fouth trip to the Philippines. Most of the time we spent at home in Mandaue/Cebu City with family and friends. The last two weeks we traveled around though to Bohol, the northern part of Cebu Island and Bantayan Island with European friends. Together with Filipino friends we also visited the Bukidnon and Cagayan provinces in Mindanao.

The Cebu and Bohol provinces are well documented here at TrekEarth so no further explanation is needed on those. Bukidnon and Cagayan are hardly visited by TE members, only three photo pages each.

The Bukidnon province is located in Northern Mindanao, south of Cagayan. It is a mountainous region which helps enough to reduce the heat and humidity of the lowland. The lower temperatures also make it more suitable for agriculture. Del Monte (the fruits producer) has plenty of land here to grow all kinds of fruits, amongst others pineapples.

Cagayan with the capital city Cagayan de Oro is a coastal province. Cagayan de Oro is the biggest city of northern Mindanao. It is most famous in the Philippines for the white water rafting opportunities, which is also what we did. Cagayan de Oro is a city like most of the larger cities in the Philippines, a bit chaotic at first sight but with very friendly people and full of smiles.
