Mustang, ‘The Forbidden Kingdom of Lo Manthang’ has been under special protections of the government of Nepal since 1992. It is a little known kingdom within Nepal which maintains the traditional Tibetan Culture. It lies in the north central part of the country bordering Tibet on the central plate. It is also known as the Himalayan Dessert & lies in the rain shadow region where it rains only two or three times a year. This place is untouched by modern society and still remains the original version till today. (32 photos)

Good Morning Delhi, Namaste Nepal by Jonathan Kalan
(264) 2007-06-18 - 2008-03-03
I could have gone anywhere, anywhere in the world to spend 6 months of my life as a University student abroad. But instead, I chose India.
Why? Well, I'm not quite sure. Maybe it was the oriental mystique, maybe it was a curiosity of the world's largest democracy and fastest growing economy. Or, maybe it was simply the farthest place I could go from California...
I came to India to learn, study, work, and take photos. I came to understand the culture, but ended up becoming completely lost and disenfranchised along the way, and now find myself in a peaceful place called Kathmandu. ... (full story) (60 photos)

Pilgrimage to Kapilvastu by kevin o'sheehan
(7517) 2007-03-14 - 2007-03-15
This is an account of a pilgrimage to a place special to me and of importance in Buddhist history. It is the meaning of the site, rather than the quality of the pictures that is so important to me. This is the site of Kapilvastu the home of Prince Siddhartha Gauthama, who was to become the Lord Buddha. It was here, it is believed that the Buddha spent his formative years in the Palace of his father, the Sakya King. The journey was full of deep significance for me and it is this I would like to share, should anyone be interested ... (full story) (11 photos)

Nepal & India by Dimitris Tsarpalis

Well the story is simple. My father wanted to go to India, my mum didn't. I took her "ticket" to this magical trip to a place so different from any other that i had visited so far. It 's a trip worth going.
If you ever get a chance to visit these countries, do it without a second thought. It is "rough" journey, but it's a view to a place, a way of living so much different from the "western" type. (29 photos)

my first trip to the far east;Nepal by Femke van der Horst
(2633) 2004-03-13 - 2004-04-01
This March I went on a 3 week trip to Nepal. As said in the subject, I'd only been to different countries in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; all 'well' developed countries.
I'm not too fond of the cliche 'culture shock', but it's true. It was!
Of course I read a lot before going, but actually being there is something else!
Sometimes I found it difficult the fully enjoy the beauty of the country and the friendlyness of the people, seeing how poor they are and how hopeless their political situation seems to be. ... (full story) (56 photos)

Three of us hiked for about a week and a half from the highway outside Pokhara, Nepal to Jomsom. We walked along the Kali Ghandaki River Gorge, saw incredible vistas of the Annapurnas and terraced farmlands.
Running out of time we chose to fly back out. The plane was a small prop model that carried a handful of people. If you crashed there was no expectation that you would survive. No seatbelts. The folks in the aisle were literaly sitting on folding aluminum/webbing lawn chairs.
Dirty plastic windows, wildly tossing plane, no opportunity to really frame or compose. I just stuck the camera to the window and let fly (love that digital). ... (full story) (4 photos)
