Nara-Machi ("The town of Nara") is the old quarters of Nara City.
Nara was founded as the first capital of Japan in 710. After the capital relocation in 784, Nara had survived as the seat of major temples.
Medieval urban area of Nara was only a small part of the old capital. This area is called "Nara-Machi" today.
Thanks to the decline of the city, Nara escaped U.S bombing, and there are several old wooden house and attractive shops today.
