Photographer's Note

These are the vineyards of Alf, a small town on the left bank of Mosel river. You can see the river right hand in the background.
The wonderful play of colours on this slope caught my eyes. Obviously the different grape varieties have different autumn colours.

My photo was taken from the donjon of Castle Arras, situated in a left (northern) side valley of Mosel river.
Alf has about 900 inhabitants and it first was mentioned as the Roman settlement "Albis" about 50 B.C.

Something to smile about:
Perhaps you know the American NBC television sitcom "ALF" with this friendly extraterrestrial creature. Because of the same name the town signs several times have been pilfered by night in the late eighties. In order to control this robbery the town offered similar signs for sale which were stamped on the back and signed by the mayor. It is said - a good bargain at that time ...

In the map view left hand I put the marker on the donjon of Castle Arras. Alf there is situated immediately east (right) of it.
