Photographer's Note

The sun was still high in the sky and warm at 7 pm in Riomaggiore. We were sitting on that rock watching the town, the coast, the fishermen coming back from work. We had to leave this place the morning after. Many young backpackers had just arrived with the last train and they were already tasting a slice of pizza and sipping on a ligurian glass of wine. Some were coming from Pisa, Florence some were coming from Milano or Venice, the rest was coming from Torino or Genova. They were excited. Most of them did not know each others but it seems like being in such a place facilitates interactions. They were extatic about how cool their stay in Cinque Terre will be. They plan on walking through the 5 lands on the Via Dell'Amore, eating good food, partying all night.

What they will quickly learn is that there is a bad side to all this: you actually have to leave one day...
