Photographer's Note

Yunnan is a land of stunning geographical, ethnic and biological diversity. Most visitors to the province head straight for Dali & Lijiang, and a couple other places, but it would be a very grave error indeed to assume that this is all that Yunnan has to offer.

Dongchuan (东川) is a mere couple hours' drive from Kunming, and has some incredible landscapes to show for. Few visitors make it out here, in spite of the proximity to Kunming.

This photograph was taken at the begining of October 2007. The land - of which this is but a minute part - is said to look best during Fall. We spent a few days in and around Dongchuan, and though the weather was overcast and not ideal for landscapes most of the time, we nevertheless had one day of fine weather, and here is one of the results.

I am surprised to learn that this is the first posting of this amazing place...
