Photographer's Note

Zanzibar legendary Stone Town alleys.

Two things struck me in old Stone Town : firstly it was not that easy to catch photos of people in the streets, even kids ran away from the cameras, secondly photography was better at noon and almost impossible at the golden hours.

Because of the narrowness of the streets, if you ever wanted to have any chance of showing light, it had to fall vertically, in the hottest part of the day.

This is probably the most photographed alley intersection in Stone Town, I have already spotted it in Bertrand's (devimeuxbe) portfolio.
Two kids holding their hands coming back from the coranic school.

This place is called "Lebanon brothers corner" due to the tag you can spot on the right hand side. It is also subtitled "Lebanon brothers are better than the west".

I was intrigued by the tags and tried to find out what was the object of such agenda. According to some american reviews, this place located in the heart of the Old Stonetown is where the islamists sell their most hardline policy to the young muslims. Although the Swahili coast has been shaken in the past with antiwest actions, like in neighboring Mombasa, Zanzibar has been kept safe from those yet...
