Photographer's Note

Morning fog is a rare event here in Basel, in the middle of August even more so. As my hangover from Saturday wasn't too bad I decided to go for an early hike through the forests of the Gempen, the first mountain range visible when looking south from one of Basel's many bridges.

The hike started in Pratteln at the end of tram line 14. After a first step climb it lead gently up and down through dense forests to the great viewing tower on the Schartenfluh. Form there it was steeply downhill to Dornach, end of tram line 10. Statistics: 450m up and down and about 3.5 hours of gentle walking with plenty of photos taken.

This image was taken only a few minutes before the fog finally lifted for the first warm, sticky summer day after the period of heavy rains. For non-swiss: the yellow rhombus on the tree to the right marks the easiest kind of swiss hicking trails.
