Photographer's Note

Rural Iowa is like a treasure chest for photographers interested in old barns, abandoned houses and even several one-room schoolhouses and churches from yesteryear. South-central Iowa is where I discovered the highest concentration of great, photogenic old buildings, especially in Monroe County. The population of Monroe County is barely over 8,000 so the back roads in the area are not traveled all that much and the people you do come in contact with are about as friendly as you'll find anywhere.
