Photographer's Note
The Temple of the Tooth is probably Sri Lanka's most important temple. It is said to house a tooth from Buddha that was rescued his funeral pyre. The tooth is contained in a heavily guarded casket so it is not possible to see the tooth itself.
Security is tight at the temple following a bomb blast here in 1998.
This picture is taken from a boat on Kandy Lake. An artificial island is to the left.

I remember quite well this place, also the security measures. I like the point of view here because it´s not the usual one. Take care.

Hi Jonathan - you follow danger wherever it goes eh? This is definitely not what I imagined Sri Lanka to look like, I thought it would be more like India, here it has a cambodian atmosphere, great compo, with enough sky to contain the tall palm tree.

Hi Jonathan
I have a similar shot but form land, not a boat. However, your shot is much brighter as it was a bit cloudy when I was there a year ago. Your shot captures this place well and the composition places the building well. I like the few birds in the frames too.
I hope you went to the evening service in the temple. What an experience that was!
Cheers

Hi Jonathan, Nice composition and well arrangement of the layout of the image. You have well shown the temple as well as the beautiful environment it located. Good capture of the flying bird in the scene. A very well taken picture.

Hi Jonathan,
Interesting note about the sacred Tooth, so guarded that is not possible to see it!
What I like more in this photo, is the two impressively high palmtrees isolated in the artificial island. The way they go up into the sky, with those birds flying not so high, balances very well the composition with the Temple in the right background. In spite of your bad experience in the evening service, I hope you manage to get one shot to show us...
Thanks a lot,
Cheers,
Ricardo

This is an excellent composition, Jonathan, and shooting this from a boat in the lake has made this look like a very quiet and peaceful place (ha ha). I posted the full story of the sacred tooth here
last year in case you didn't hear it all whilst you were in Kandy. You were lucky to have such a clear day when you were there. Cheers . . . David

Nice shot with the trees on the left balancing the scene with the temple on the right. Very intersting note too - religious artifacts are such a strange field, they never fail to entertain. This lush greenery is quite a change from your Afghanistan series. Well done!

Hej Jonathan,
Great photo of the white temple in its surroundings here. A good composition too with island on the left hand side of the picture, I like the very tall palm trees! Good work.

Hi Jonathan
Have just noticed that you're back from Sri Lanka, no doubt with some interesting shots - including this one. This is a nicely framed scene with a tranquil feel, though I have to admit I avoided visiting this touristy temple when I was there a couple of years ago. Sounds like the evening service was of interest after all though!

Hi Jonathan,
A well composed shot rendered with good colour, clarity and contrast. The two palm trees balance and you even captured obliging birds to further enhance. Well captured. Regards.
