Photographer's Note

The House of the Lord... like the flesh and blood of Christ, during mass?
But, following McLuhan's thinking, is the medium the message, too?
Except that...
Can anyone still feel at home, when the place is often closed at noon, for lunch, and after 7pm? When the right of sanctuary has been relegated to the oubliettes of history, connected to the sewage system? When the institution itself calls the police to throw out illegal aliens who merely wish to live, but "forgets" other squatters since 1977, especially when they are catholic traditionalists?
Or should this idea of a house only some variant of the placebo effect?

There is no beautifier of complexion, or form, or behavior, like the wish to scatter joy and not pain around us. 'Tis good to give a stranger a meal, or a night's lodging. 'Tis better to be hospitable to his good meaning and thought, and give courage to a companion. We must be as courteous to a man as we are to a picture, which we are willing to give the advantage of a good light.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
