Photographer's Note

A Jay.

A visit to Haldon Forest near Exeter, this Jay was seen close to many buildings that make up the Visitors Centre.
There was a designated bird feeding area, and we were so fortunate in seeing this wary bird, as they are more often heard than seen.

The Jay is a member of the Crow family, easily the most colourful!

The Jay is sometimes seen hopping along the ground and picking up seeds or acorns from under trees.

When spotted in flight, it is usually flitting from one group of trees to another with distinctive, jerky beats of its rounded wings.

Unusually for birds, the male and female have the same appearance.
