Corner ‘t Zand – Zuidzandstraat.
A neoclassical hotel that was partly designed in 1839 by city architect Jean-Brunon Rudd, and that reflects his preference for the neoclassical style;
As a hotel with a beautifully decorated hall in neo-Flemish-Renaissance style, whose wall decoration is painted by the famous Bruges painter Florimond Van Acker. The historicizing characters and scenes are typical of his oeuvre. The iconography of the whole closely matches the function as hotel and restaurant;
As a rare example for Bruges and even for Flanders from a preserved hall from that period;
The hall is undeniably the expression of a fashion trend by the well-to-do bourgeoisie of the years 1880-1890 to decorate the interior in an eclecticism that is artistically and aesthetically highly appreciated. The iconography of the interior is fully in line with the function of restaurant or café.

I hope you can enjoy.
