Paul graag draag ik deze foto aan u op (2de foto), want zoals u wel weet zijn er weinig plaatjes waar ik nooit een foto heb genomen in Brugge.

View on Groenerei Bruges, half frozen, taken yesterday afternoon.

De Groenerei is a watercourse and a street in the center of Bruges. The rei runs from the Kraanrei at the Huidenvettersplein until the meeting with the Sint-Annarei and the Coupure, near the Molenbrug. The street of the same name is located on the eastern half of the south bank and runs from the Predikheren bridge to the Meebrug. The street on the western half of the south bank is called Steenhouwersdijk, which until 1825 was also the name of the street Groenerei. The Groenerei is spanned by the Peerdenbrug, the Meebrug and the Blinde-Ezelbrug.
The name "Groenerei" would be derived from an inn called 't Groene. Old Bruggelingen usually use that name instead of Groenerei. Until the first quarter of the 19th century the name Steenhouwersdijk was used as a name for the entire street between the Vismarkt and the Molenbrug.
Until recently it was assumed that the Groenerei is not a natural watercourse, but a man-made moat to provide water for a further situated water mill (at the Molenbrug over Sint-Annarei). She would have been dug before the 11th century. According to current insights, the Groenerei is indeed a segment of the natural course of the Reie. From 1127, the Groenerei was part of the first city wall of Bruges.

I hope you can enjoy.
