Photographer's Note

Luciano likes the photos of ceilings or inside the domes, so I dedicate to him this Chinese ceiling from the Chongsheng Temples in Dali.

Chongsheng Monastery & Three Pagodas are by far the most well-known and magnificent Buddhist shrines in this part of Southeast Asia. Originally, the Chongsheng Monastery was built in 10th century to be near the Dali Three Pagodas, so people call them "Chongsheng Monastery & Three Pagodas". The Monastery & Pagodas are located 1 km north of town Dali - if you look at it from a distance, the pagodas are like three giant ballpoint pens breaking up the landscape of the never-ending mountains and emerald rice fields of Yunnan.
The figure here is 12 m high Avalokitesvara. The unique form of Avalokitesvara with the man body and woman appearance is the Avalokitesvara worshipped by Bai people. It is also called "The Lucky star of Yunnan".
