Fixing something, a photo from Sodermanland, Svealand

Photographer's Note

This simple photo is from a walk in my favourite neighbourhood on a hill of Södermalm island in central Stockholm. I don't know what these men were doing but I thought they could be worth a photo or two. Since it was a public holiday they were probably paid a double salary and were in no hurry to finish, so I had plenty of time.

what would a photo from Stockholm be without yellow in it right? haha

and now that i think about it, those are some very large pilons! its a bit excessive don't you think?

anyways, I know you enjoy these everyday life scenes, its your favorite :) not mine, but I can still appreciate it for sure. Enjoy your sunday

What an excellent picture ! Without people , it would be a beautiful postcard of this superb old typical street in Stockholm . But with the workers in orange and yellow and the cones in similar colors , it becomes an outstanding corful composition .

Hello Gert, I made a virtual walk on Sodermalm and found the place even without the map link (when I view the pictures in beta, I can't see the map...) . The view in Google map is made in 2011 and there wass also something on the corner. Funny. Nice street with the cobblestones and I like the wooden fences. The workers match nicely the colours. Strange that on 6th June there were still blooming lilacs. When I returned from China in the end of May all my lilacs were gone already.

Hello Gert,
Unusual to be working on a public holiday unless it was some sort of emergency, but as you suggest these guys don't seem to be in any sort of hurry. The narrow vertical frame suits the subject perfectly. I like the well managed light and the yellow/red tonal contrast. An interesting and well realised daily life image.

Great photo of these men at work, even though they seem to be taking it quietly on this warm and sunny day, luckily they are standing in the shadows. The bright colours of their work clothing and the cones makes them stand out wonderfully from the background. The street looks very charming with its cobblestones, fresh green trees and yellow house. Excellent daily life capture.

I think these two men deserved their double salary fully. How else can they be rewarded for the excellent choice of the colours of their working cloth. And they are right they did the job slowly. So as much trespassers as possible could enjoy the fitting of the colours in the scene. 😊😊😊

I would have been also attracted by the splash of warm hues from yellow to red, contrasting with the green leaves and of course with the human presence of 2 workers .... at rest!

anche se gli operai se la sono presa un po' con comodo, sono al lavoro mentre c'è una festa, possiamo capirli.
Inoltre ti hanno permesso di poter scattare delle foto e questo è senza dubbio un privilegio.
Non avevo mai visto dei coni così grandi, gli uomini sembrano dei nani al loro confronto.

Et flott bilde av dagliglivet i en av hovedstadens gater på selveste nasjonaldagen. Du har fanget scenen med et veldig fint lys. Brosteinen bidrar til sjarmen her. Det må ha vært veldig prekært å få arbeidet utført. På bildet i WS er aktivitetsnivået noe høyere enn på dette bildet. Jeg liker likevel dette best av de to. Godt observert og vel utført:)

Nice daily life scene with the working people, it looks to my unprofessional eyes that they were doing some sealing-job under the old pavement.
Besides those men, the yellow façade is beautiful and well shine against the grey stones of the road, and contrast the blue sky and green trees.

A good picture of the day to day actions in the city, in this case with this pair of workers, who seem to repair something on the street, a quiet street with abundant vegetation and a beautiful cobble.
A nice color, in these natural tones.

there may not be a lot of action from the workmen,but then, with all of that protective clothing,including hard hats and ear muffs it`s lucky that they are in the shade and not exposed to the burning sun...

The two photos are related in theme. Here the bright colors are complementary and can lift one's spirit. As Beverly (Royaldevon) points out, it is reminiscent of
• How many workmen does it take to replace a lightbulb? The answer is six. Six, one to screw in the bulb, and the others to turn the room around.
In the United States, we have many variations, by state, by gender...
• In Virginia, six. One to screw in the bulb, five to remind us how the earlier one was better.
• Among feminists, fifteen. One to screw in the bulb, fourteen to be supportive.
• At Johns Hopkins University, two. One to stand on the ladder, a second one to kick out the ladder.

From your photo, I can see that the workmen are much more efficient.

I don't blame those two guys for taking their time, having to work on a public holiday ! Still the double pay will be interesting :-)

I like the way you keep bringing the realities of life in Sweden home to me. You were the first to tell me about problems with Swedish public transport before I had an opportunity to experience the issues with trains and before my flygbussarna was cancelled.
You could play a game of "spot the difference" with this and the workshop photo. Really not much happening here.
