Photographer's Note

Castro Urdiales (population of 30,000) is a seaport of northern Spain, situated on the bay of Biscay. The town was founded by the Romans and is a popular tourist destination today. It lies at a scenic bay with a beautiful beach surrounded by high cliffs.
High on a cliff above the bay, there are located the Church of Santa María de la Asunción and the Castle of Santa Ana, built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century. The castle had to protect pilgrims walking along the Camino de Santiago, the Way St. James, to Santiago de Compostela. Within the castle a lighthouse was built in 1853.
