HPA2011 The Hill of Crosses
By Rymantas Penkauskas (Lithuania)
HPA2011 Documentary Award
Time: 2006-2010
Place: Meskuciai, Siauliai region, Lithuania
Nowadays it's hard to say when the first crosses were built on this hill. It is believed that the answer lies back in the 19th century, when people came here praying for health, for those who live or for those who died in battles for the liberty. It became the symbol of hope and freedom for the Lithuanians. Also, it's almost impossible to count the number of crosses on this piece of land.
