Defensive walls in Opole, a city in Silesia.
The first settlement of the tribe Opolanie (about 9th century) was surrounded by earth ramparts. During the reign of Bolek I, Duke of Opole, defensive walls of brick were built around the city. They surrounded the old town and had numerous bastions and five gates leading into the city. They were built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries.
Today the tourists can see only fragments of walls, in the picture you can see the reconstructed walls with old and new bricks, roof of a bastion funded by the fishermen guild and the towers of the cathedral in Opole.
