Photographer's Note

The hub of hubbub in New York City, Grand Central Station!

I was recently browsing through Brendas (worldcitizen) gallery pages and noticed we have taken similar pictures along the way, which prompted me to start looking back through my own to find this one. As you can see here, we have almost the same point of view and effect.

In the midst of the frenetic pace of this terminal, if you look closely between the chaos, there’s an underlying ballet of life in motion. I had taken a good amount of time setting up for this shot, trying to find a proper shutter speed to create the blur of people in passing, when out of nowhere appeared the lady in the bottom center of this composition. I presume she had stopped to zip up her jacket…and with feet crossed, hands coming together, bowed head and a soft glowing backlight to outline her figure, the pose was quite poetic set against the lively scene…and so of course, I snapped away!

No sooner had the camera registered the shot, she had moved on and out of frame. I’d like to say I chose a black & white version because it’s more “artistic,” but truth be told, I was never satisfied with the white balance and couldn’t get a good enough handle on it to correct in post processing…so I took the easy way out. :)

Have a great week everyone. Thanks for stopping by.
