Photographer's Note

The media comes to Ethiopia when there is a famine or a famous runner.
And so, unless you've been there, most of the time, what the world sees are starving kids or athletes.

But the day to day Ethiopia is so much more than that.

For example, many Ethiopians smile a lot, especially if you have a camera. Here is a shot of a mamma and her baby boy. She is a vendor at the native market, a place for locals, and one of the places tourists are less likely to target. Note the interesting mix of clothing she is wearing, reminds me of patterns and colors from London in the sixties. They may be rather poor, but her little boy is happy and fed and loved.
