Photographer's Note

When I was in the town of Ust-Labinsk for the first time, I visited its new church only. It is seen in the far background of the picture.

This time, three years later, I also was at the town’s main sight, Ust-Labinskaya (Aleksandrovskaya) Fortress, which is seen in the foreground and middle-ground. It was founded by a great Russian military leader, Alexander Suvorov, in 1778. In 1792 – 1793 it was partly redesigned and named as Ust-Labinskaya (meaning “situated at the mouth of the Laba”) by instructions of a general-in-chief Ivan Gudovich. At the end of the XVIII – the first half of the XIX centuries, the fortress was of a great strategic importance to the Russian Empire.

Restoration and museumfication of this monument of history and fortification were conducted in 2006 – 2009 years under joint participation of the administration of Ust-Labinsk District, Charitable Foundation "The Unrestricted Business" and the historical museum of Ust-Labinsk area.
