Above the sea, seen from the strait said les Bouches de Bonifacio, the citadel and Bonifacio's old town, and dug in the cliff, the said king of Aragon staircase.

The city of Bonifacio is shared between its harbour, and on the rocky headland the old town, in the citadel, built from 828 by Boniface, Marquess de Toscane, then by Pisans and the Genoese.

BONIFACIO is a French municipality, placed in the department of Corse-du-Sud, region of Corse, populated with 2925 Bonifaciens in 2008, distributed on 138.4 km², that is to say 21.1 hab/km².

The creation of Bonifacio between 828 and 833 would be Boniface's fact, Marquess of Tuscany. Rival of the Republic of Genoa, the Republic_of_Pisa occupied this place until 1195 date on which the city was established again by genoas. Overcome in 1553 by the Turkish privateer Dragut, the city became French, and became Genoese again in 1559, up to the Treaty of Versailles in 1768, when the Republic of Genoa gave up Corsica to France.

Bonifacio histoiry.

The Bonifacio city is one of the most tourist places of Corsica with more than a million annual visitors.
