Photographer's Note

This picture is a tribute to Syria, where its people decided to take to the streets and ask for freedom.
Syrians are friendly and simple people. The country has a big mix of people with different religions and races. Muslim Sunnis, shiat, Allawites, Druz, Chirstian orthodox, Christian catholics, and even few more. The racial mix is also diverse from Arab, Assyrians/ Aramaic, European (from Crusaides, to Balkan and Turkish), Armenian, Kurdish and much more.

The country is a republic in name but the ruling party, Baath, has been in power for 50 years at least. No free elections have been held since 1972. Democracy and prosperity in Syria is important to the world.

My picture is not of high quality. But, I dedicate to the Syrian people (including the martyrs who were shot dead over the past 2 weeks by the local security dominated and ruled by the dictatorship), to all the prisoners of conscience in Syrian jails and to all who will continue to go out to the streets. Let the world hear them.
