Photographer's Note

Like Wolves and almost Eagles Reindeer were hunted out of existance in Scotland.
Untill 1952 A Swedish Doctor and his wife Mikel Utsi was treking in The Cairngorm Mountains. He felt something was missing from the mountain slopes. Reindeer were missing. They were reintroduced by Mikel and continue to thrive to this day.
They are well worth a visit if your in the Aviemore area, they are about a 30 minute hike from the Ski Road, although its advisable to use the Ranger Service to take you up. As can be seen they are very sociable and when you get near them they come to you.
At this time of year they earn their keep by visiting towns and cities in the UK to help Santa out as pops over from Rovaniemi.

The Ranger I went with told me a very funny story. The Antlers are just growing when this was taken in June and they shed them around late December early January. A particular Reindeer was in Aberdeen helping Santa out visit Children. A kid patted the deer and its Antler fell off. The poor child was horrified and thought she had hurt the deer, however the Ranger informed us it was perfectly natural with no discomfort to the deer. Just bad timing
