Photographer's Note

Notes: The Monte Mochuara mountain is home to several species threatened with extinction, such as the araçá do mato, the pau-d'alho, the cobi-da-terra, the cobi-da-pedra, the jequitibá and the jeriquitim. Its fauna is composed of hummingbirds, woodpeckers, lizards and other animals. The magnificence of the mountain served as a reference for travelers and adventurers who, in the first centuries of Brazil, roamed the hinterlands of Espírito Santo in search of new lands and mineral riches. In the language of the Indians who inhabited the place, the name Mochuara means sister stone, but historical accounts say that when French corsairs arrived in Vitória Bay, the mist that covered the hill resembled an immense white cloth. Hence the expression mouchoir, which means handkerchief and is pronounced "muchuá". From the hill descended the Cariacica River, which gave its name to the Municipality.
