Photographer's Note

This is a picture of the "pan de jamon" (ham bread), one of the traditional Venezuelan X-mas dishes. It is a bread filled with ham, raisins and olives. This sweet - salty combination is really delicious. I took this picture at a Christmas party a couple of years ago. I sharpened a bit and removed a grey shadow that made the bread look unnatural. I hope it is as appealing to you as it is to me.

Some internet comments on this delicious bread:

"This white, soft-textured bread is stuffed with smoked ham, green olives and raisins--a remarkable combination of flavors that blows away the typical breakfast ham and cheese croissant. "

"This delicious and succulent Venezuelan christmas dish, is said to have its origin in the 1950s. At that time a huge number of European immigrants came to Venezuela, Italians and Portuguese became famous by their bakeries. It is said that during Christmas, to bring more clients, an Italian baker introduced a bread stuffed with, ham, olives and raisins and promoted it as a special Christmas dish. Nowadays, a Venezuelan Christmas dinner without Pan de Jamon is unthinkable."
