Photographer's Note
In Peru there seemed to be a parade or a party every day. Maybe because they celebrate their national day through most of July. This, however, was a different occasion.
I arrived Puno on the shores of Titicaca late in the evening after a long bus ride from Cuzco. How strange it was to walk past a naval base at almost 4000 meters above sea level. Puno is a hilly and vibrant city like most other cities in Peru. I arrived very much without a plan but was quickly convinced by a Colombian backpacker to sign up for a day trip on the lake. She was right.
First, we went to a very fascinating floating village built on blocks of soil that have to be replaced every 20 years or so. Then we continued to Isla Taquile, where we were lucky to arrive in the middle of a festival. About 2000 people reside there, on the 2nd largest island of the lake. Everyone had gathered on the main square to take part in this event. Taquile has been honored by UNESCO for their unique textile arts.
My point: Lake Titicaca is worth every single second. What a beautiful and diverse region!

Hi Fredrik.
This scene shows us how beautiful and important is to keep the cultural heritage of an independent state. A great POV over the square, wonderful handkrafted costumes, a pleasure to look at photograph. I may go to Peru next year, so this location will be on my route too. TfS!!!

Hello, Fredrik, my neighbor today,
I have not often seen the photography from this far country.
Thanks for so informative note and excellent picture. This part of the world loves the daily carnivals, parades. Why not? I can't recognize their costumes, I think it is some mix of native and Spanish cultures.
Best!

Hello Fredrik, I also went to Puno but after a long ride from Arequipa. Puno was maybe the ugliest town I have ever seen. I wonder if it looks better now (I was in Peru twenty years ago). Of course, I made a trip on Titicaca Lake to Uros floating villages (a bit touristy) and then to Taquile. You were lucky with the festival there and the possibility to see the wonderful clothes, but Taqwuile is worth a visit anyway. I remember that the men were knitting and the women didn't want to have their photos taken. Fantastic picture.
Peru was my first country in South America.
Kind regards MAlgo
