Photographer's Note

The Uru are an ethnic group indigenous to Puno on Lake Titicaca in Peru from about 2000 people. The Urus currently live on 49 "floating islands" that they manufacture of dried totora reeds. The same plant is among other raw material for reed boats and the houses on the islands. The islands are located 5 km west from the port of Puno.

The original language of the Urus was closely related to the Chipaya language, or is combined with this as Uru-Chipaya. The Urus are living from fishing and from the colorful blankets to the tourists.
