Photographer's Note
Day 10 - Still at the weaver's cooperative where we got to know the fantastic work of a group of some local women. Despite the changing on the way the majority of artisans do their work in Peru, this group still keep the traditional dyeing and weaving process, using local plants to dye the textile and traditional loom to weave them.
Here we can se the oldest in the group weaving a belt on a portable loom (for more about the weaving process please see previous post). She was a very skilled lady and I was fascinated by her hands at work. Her costume was the only one in black among the women (sorry, but I don't know if there was a particular reason for that).
I used a different setting for this shoot, it was on shutters speed priority and ISO 400 so the light areas were a little overexposed. I increased the contrast of middle tones to get a metallic bright on her hands and on the black dress. Besides that, the picture was only resized for the web.

Nice composition for getting the point of the story to us. I saw what you did in post processing and you seemed to handle it pretty well.
Great Job.

Another great working hands photo Flavia. I really like that on. The hands looks from a old woman that works to much sice she was young.
Nice point of view.
thanks

Flavia, looking through your gallery I see how you photography has developed, and i am sensing you now have the desire to get closer to your subject, excluding the 'wider context'.If i am right (i could be completely mistaken) i think this is a great,as some of your earlier shots are centred around a lovely idea, but maybe included unnecessary elements. These close ups are both beautiful and interesting. Good stuff,

Hola Flavia, magnífica imagen de las manos de la tejedora iluminadas por la luz del sol en su quehacer cotidiano. Me gusta como destacan las manos, los hilos y las tablas sobre el fondo oscuro de la ropa.
Interesante reportaje.
Un abrazo.

Hi Flavia,
it is a lovely idea for a photograph highlighting the traditional activities people take on to sustain their livehood...a lot to learn from it...and a lot to admire...on the top of what zenskat has already said i could add that the amount of black did not make it easy for you i suppose...especially in the top right corner...i remember visiting this place two years ago and actually purchasing one of them belts...was it from the lady dressed in black...i do not remember;-)...cheers, arturo

Hola Flavia una imagen muy conmovedora...sin mostrar mucho dices mucho a través de la expresividad de las manos. Magnífica iluminación y detalles.
Saludos desde Chile,
Robert

Flaaavia!...
Pô cara!...
Vermeer must be smiling by now: this an image that could have been taken from his paintings (if he had the chance to have travelled to Peru)...
Proud was a Brazilian who took it!...
Valeu, irmãzinha!...
