Photographer's Note

These are vicugnas (vicuņas). There vicugna is now believed to be the wild ancestor of domesticated alpacas, which are raised for their coats. The vicugnas are wild and cannot be tamed. Our tour guide was actually quite excited that we could see some, on our way from Puno to Arequipa, on the altiplano. They are not seen on each trip. Note: the slope angle is real ... not because of a badly held camera! Taken through a bus window :-( but to me it represents well the altiplano of Peru.
