Photographer's Note

This is my first picture from Ecuador and also my first since I turned 22 yesterday. One month ago I went to Colombia and Ecuador. I stayed only 3 whole days in the latter, but I think I spent them wisely.

On my first morning in Ecuador, after a crazy Halloween party with my friends down there, I was ready to climb higher than ever before. The cable car in Quito is the second highest in the world and its upper terminus is at 4050 masl. These mountains are known for the clouds coming in around noon almost every day, but I was lucky. I could see the summits of Pichincha, the volcano that gives name to the region of Quito.

I was curious about how far in there I could go, so I just started walking towards the tall mountain to the right. And to my surprise and joy, I eventually ended up on the summit (Cumbre Rucu Pichincha, 4698 masl)! I even made some new friends there and I regard the hike as one of my very best travel experiences. Lovely landscape!
