Photographer's Note

To continue the theme (not yet created) "houses on stilts" I thought about the South American version of them. They are called palafitos and the best-known examples are on the Island of Chiloe.
They are wooden houses that consist of two fronts, one towards the street, with which it communicates through a bridge, and the other towards the canal, which has an upper terrace that fulfils the function of a patio and a lower level that is used for construction work. fishing, according to the hours of tide.

To find some more information about the town of Castro, I looked at the Internet. And I was horrified what I found there.
The 2021 Castro Fire is a forest fire that affected the city of Castro, Chile, on Thursday, December 9, 2021. The fire, according to expert reports, began in bushes near the upper sector of the city. , which later spread to the houses of the Camilo Henríquez population and later to Villa Los Presidentes. This disaster left more than 500 people evacuated, 18 injured and more than 120 houses destroyed. The red alert for the fire was canceled on December 14, 2021. ( There are many horrifying photos on the Internet.

It reminded me that I saw fires in Chile and thanks to God, Providence or just chance I didn't lose my life in the fire in Punta Arenas - see

The houses are made mainly of wood and the risk of fire is high. In the hostels, we could not sleep because we were so nervous.

I have read that also a few palafitos burned.

Two more photos in Workshops.
Jorge was there too, so he will be also sad to read it.
