Santiago de Chile - View from Cerro San Cristóbal

Santiago de Chile, founded in 1541, has been the capital of the country since colonial times. It’s also the largest city of Chile and located at an elevation of 520 m in the country's central valley.

The Andes are only an hour and a half from Santiago and in winter their snowy peaks are clearly visible from in the center of town. Though the best views are from on top of the Cerro San Cristóbal (San Cristóbal Hill), a hill that rises about 300 m above the rest of the city and a pleasant and not too difficult walk from in the center.

On TE pictures of Santiago and the Andes peaks have been posted before and on some of them you can see a thick layer of smog between both.
The days before my arrival it had rained. But I was very lucky and could enjoy some sunny days with quite clear views and without much smog. The mountains seemed like a huge wall not far from the city.
