Photographer's Note

Rio de Janeiro Carnival is famous all around the world. The most known are the Schools of Samba Parade with thousand of people parading with rich costumes, huge floats and the big battery wing. The parede in Rio take place at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí place designed by Oscar Niemeyer.

However besides the Schools of Samba Parade the "Carnival blocks" are great too. The Carnival block or in portuguese only Blocos are more old Carnival event than the Parade. The Blocos are composed by bands distributed around all city. This event starts with the concentrantion, a initial place where the band begins to play carnival musics (from Rio de Janeiro and other brazilian cities) where the "marchinhas de carnaval" are the most played.
When many people arrived th this initial place the band block start to walk in a pre-defined path of streets and the revelers goes behind dancing and singing. The moving blocks are more common but there are some that stay in only one place.

There are hundreds of blocks paredes in all city during the Carnival. The blocks paredes start 1 week before the Schools of Samba Parade and only ends 1 week after it.
