Photographer's Note

Here a view inside the Mother Church of Paraty. This was a very difficult photo to take, since the church was crowded with parishioners.

I took this photo on a sunday morning from the church door and in this moment was occuring a mass related with the Festival of the Divine Holy Spirit.

About the inside:

1) Altar Mor of Our Lady of Remedies:
Patroness of Paraty, whose image is made in polychrome wood, of the eighteenth century, is enthroned in the central shrine. In this altar you can still see wooden images of St. Joaquim (right) and St. Anne (left), both from the eighteenth century.

2) Altar of St. Michael:
with a wooden image of the eighteenth century. The painting of this altar is the result of recent restoration of the original painting of the temple.

3) Altar of St. Francis:
with wooden image dating from nineteenth century.

4) Altar of San Roque:
with wooden image of the eighteenth century.

5) Altar of Our Lady of Rosary:
with a polychrome wood image, eighteenth century.

6) Chapel of Our Lord of the Passion:
with a central image of Jesus made in wood with the image of Our Lady of Solitude on his right and the image of Our Lord of the Cana Verde on his left. All images date from the eighteenth century. These images, in natural size, have articulation in the arms and head and are part of the processions and ceremonies of Holy Week.

7)Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament:

Today dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, possess wood image from the twentieth century. This chapel was formerly dedicated to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

8) Baptistery:
with Sink made seventeenth century marlbe and belonged to the former church.
