Photographer's Note

The Culture House of Paraty is a space that presents the history and life of the coastal town of Paraty, with rich historical heritage for its cultural and artistic events. The house was made possible through a partnership between the Electronuclear, Globo TV, the City Hall of Paraty, Votorantim Group, the Roberto Marinho Foundation and with support from Springer Carrier.

The Culture House have permanent and temporary expositions. In this day as we can see in the photo was occurring a exhibition about Madame Curie.

Many of the historical archives about the house were lost, but it is believed that it was founded in 1754 and due to the number of doors it was probably a warehouse in the past. In 1791 the house was reformed and details were added between 1860 and 1874.
In 1833 the Masons founded in Paraty The Store Union & Beauty. Among the founders found itself the doctor José Joaquim Pereira de Souza. Souza family members were demonstrably linked to the HOuse and the influence of Masons characters is accentuated, as we see till today.

This was a very difficult photo to do (as many other at Paraty this day) since the light was very strong and the shades were very dark against the white façades.
