Photographer's Note

Ouro Preto is an old Brazilian colonial city. It was founded in the 1700s due to the large amount of gold in the area.

The architecture of the city is in the Portuguese style, reminiscent of a typical Portuguese city from the 18th century.

It has numerous churches in its urban area, and preserves the main Portuguese colonial complex outside Europe.

At its height in the Gold Rush, the city became one of the largest in the Americas.

It currently has 73,000 inhabitants and numerous steep and narrow slopes where it is indeed quite difficult to drive.

It was the first Brazilian city to be considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
