Photographer's Note

Constant earthquakes and the overpopulation of the Madeira Island and of the nine island that form the Archipelago of Azores stimulated the arrival of about 6,000 immigrants to the “Desterro” (later Florianopolis) and to the Santa Catarina coast between 1747 and 1756.
Saint Anthony of Lisbon (Santo Antônio de Lisboa), founded in 1755 by these immigrants, is a quiet place in Santa Catarina island. There are some interesting ancient buildings.
The oysters, which are cultivated here and in the south of the island, in the turned side of the continent, can be consumed very fresh, soon after being extracted from the sea.
