Photographer's Note

This shot was taken in the small Armação da Piedade, a small village where most of people are fisherman. Close to Florianópolis, capital of Santa Catarina state it is very peacefull. Many years ago, when hunting wales were allowed this was an important place where the wales were "open" and the flesh and oil was extracted.

The church on the place and many other buildings were built using a mix of wale oil and other substances since there was no cement available so easy. In this picture, the day was kinda cloudy, but at the exact moment just a small piece of sky coould be penetrated by the sun as you can see on the mountains in a white ray of light.

This place is a small part of Portugal outside Portugal. Most of people have strong portuguese roots and they still continue to keep most of them behavior.

the picture is a little bit dark but it´s due the scanner low quality.
