Photographer's Note
Palace Avenida is one of the most important historic buildings of Curitiba and is located in the city center on the corner of Luiz Xavier Avenue and Oliveira Bello alley.
Dated from 1929, it was built by the Syrian-Lebanese immigrant Feres Merhy with original architectural design by Valentine Freitas, Bernardino Assumption Oliveira and Bortolo Bergonse.
Throughout its history, the imposing complex of about 18 thousand square meters housed cafés and the Cine Avenida, one of the first theaters in the capital of Paraná.
At the end of the 1980s after structural problems, only the facade remained intact.In 1991 it was fully recovered by Bamerindus bank and then sold to HSBC, becoming headquarters HSBC Bank Brazil.
In the Palace Avenida currently operates one bank agency, a cultural space and a theater Avenue for 250 spectators.
Since its recovery in 1991, the Palace Avenida placed the traditionally Christmas Children's Choir that sang from it windows. The Coral is formed by 160 chrildren of social institutions.
