Photographer's Note

Few words are enough to testify of the beauty of the Bahiana's ladies, in the north-east of Brazil.

Even if it's one of the poorest province of Brazil from an economic point of view, it's probably the wealthiest as far as culture is concerned. Everywhere, you can discover an valuable mix : food, music, religion...

All this is is the result of its very specific history when Portuguese culture melted with African and Indian cultures. They developped a very strong culture with many great aspects such as the local food mixing seafood, spices and cocomilk, the "Candomble" religion mixing catholicism and African traditions, music, Capoeira mixing tradition African beats and a terrible fichting technic and a very happy way of living even in poverty.

It has been a terrible History which left many people behind and wasted a lot of its components but today it's leading to an incredible burst of positive energy, amazingly interesting culture which any curious et careful traveller should try to discover.
