Photographer's Note

This church was built by Jesuits, located in the historic center of Porto Seguro, one of the first settlements in Brazil.

The Chapel of St. Benedict was built in the 17th century.

According to history, this was the only church in the area that blacks could attend in the past. The others were exclusive to whites, descendants of Europeans.
