Photographer's Note

We entered the Rubber Tree Museum.

The Vigorelli sewing machine, from the time of my mother and my grandmother, was there at the corner and called my attention for its charm and beauty. I thought it would be better to use sepia, so that the picture would be more in conformity with the ancient times.

The Museum is a reconstruction of Seringal Vila Paraíso, which was abandoned and taken by the forest after the rubber times. It was totally rebuilt to serve as a set for the film “A Selva” (The Jungle). After the movie was made, it was turned into a museum, with its Rubber Baron House, storage room, chapel, bathhouse, as well as places in the forest where the plantation workers would sleep and harvest the rubber.
