Photographer's Note

This is a close-up of a Puya Raymondi, a large plant that grows in some places in the Andes. This pineapple-like plant, an endagered species, is supposed to flower only every 100 years or so, and its flower is around 8 meters high. I found a large group of them trekking in Carrasco National Park, at about 3,600 meters high.

As this was a very long walk, instead of taking my usual and heavy camera I only carried my cellphone, a Nokia C6, which I used to take this shot. Though the quality of the image is not perfect, it turned out to be far better than I expected.
